Sunny life

Brewery at Work

St. Arnold's Brewery is unite small but it makes thousands of bottles of beer every week. There are four main ingredients: Barley, Hops, Water and Yeast. There are big containers that mix and cool the beer. The beer is so popular in Houston that it only stays on the shelf three days before it is sold! It was interesting to see how it is made and how it is sold.

Lakewood Church

We went to Lakewood church on the weekend. It was a very unusual experience. Check out the video of what we saw. It is not like a traditional church. The music is very powerful and the preacher is like a self-help guru. It is difficult to describe the experience.... What do you think?

METRO

This is a ticket of metro. Do you have 100yen? Of course you guys have much more than 100yen. I bought it $1.25. It's very cheap but it has a great system. METRO doesn't need more money than $1.25 and you can cross the town. You can use it for three hours when you take a train. If you take a bus you can take a bus for more than 1hour only 1dollars. In Japan, the fares of transportation are going up and up. It's so expensive. But why is it so cheap? Because the country(U.S) conduct the METRO. we can go everywhere you want to go very cheap. If someone is coming to US please use it easily

Nature in the City

If you have green space in the city, then wildlife will come.
Check out these beautiful ducks waddling around Post Oak in Houston!

Beer is Big Business!

This afternoon we are going to visit St.Arnold's Brewery, a craft brewery in Houston. To prepare for the visit we have some study sheets.  We are going to learn new vocabulary about the beer industry, read about the history of the brewery and analyze beer labels for marketing.   We will have a tour of the factory and will ask the guide some questions!  We will post our original marketing labels here in a few days! Beer is big business in the USA

Zumba, anyone?

Have you heard of Zumba? It's an exercise craze from the USA. It uses south American rhythm and dance moves and people do it to lose weight! It is so much fun and a good way to relax after a hard day in work. In Houston, Zumba classes are free in the park, Discovery Green! Almost 150 people joined the class! It was really exciting! Some of us tried it!
A Houston policeman even came and joined the class, he was so funny exercising with us and blowing his whistle. I wish policemen in Japan did this!

Today's lunch!

♫Candid Camera♫

Guess whaaaat!!! We played a prank on mr T to show our LOVE♪ You can check how he's ecstatic about this time of dokkiri (=prank).

Deep Fried Pickles!

We went to this cool restaurant after work yesterday where they have really delicious food!
They also have live music here every Friday and Saturday night. It is right across the street from our office!

Have you ever tried deep-fried dill pickles? Check out the picture. They were really tasty. They were served with ranch dressing. They are from the deep south and are a traditional food in this area.

Smart Transportation!

Houston is working hard to improve their transport network.
Traditionally, many people drive cars but recently, many people are starting to ride bicycles to work and the bus even has special carry areas on the front to carry bikes for passengers
so they can cycle half the way to work.
Japan should adopt this idea! Check it out!

What a huge amount of files!

I can't believe it! That's not all files and each file has a housing name. It's not easy to find a name I want from here. It is a heavy work for us and we could be more powerful than yesterday!! I will do filing tomorrow again. I'll do my best...

First Day of the Internship

Look! Mr "T" is sleeping on the sofa. I think he gets so tired of stress & other personal or mental background.

The First day in Office!

Howdy?

I'm tired a little, but I'm doing good. It's fine.

Today was the first day in office. We did a kind of paper work. We moved many files in office.
Tomorrow, we'll do more different work.
I hope to talk with more people in office(:

This is my dinner for today.

Are you emotionally intelligent?

Are good at expressing yourself? Can you empathize with other people?
Today we studied about the importance of communication in the workplace.
Do you think you should 'check your emotions at the door' when you go to work?
Let us know your thoughts!

Socializing after a Hard Day!

We had a great social event after a hard day of Orientation.  Rika really enjoyed the gyoza at Yatai-mura.  We all had fun, some beers, great conversation and food!

Orientation

We held our first orientation yesterday to prepare for Texas. We met the students from Tokyo early in the morning. In the morning session we started with icebreaking and team-building activities. We split into two groups and tried to make the tallest free-standing giraffe from newspaper! The winning team won some tasty (?!?!) root beer candy from Sarah's trip to Canada.

After that we played some games to get to know each other. Do you know two truths and a lie?
We found out some interesting things about each other ;). After that, we played commonalities because we all have something in common!

Then, we worked on improving our emotional intelligence. We discovered lots of new words to use to describe how we fell - elated, heartbroken, devastated, ecstatic, etc. we considered the intensity of these words and how and we to use them. The role plays were really funny! Are you emotionally intelligent?
